What's Hot for September!

There's a touch of fall in the air, but these books will heat (and sometimes spice!) things up. Here is a baker's dozen of  most requested books at Main & Avoca:
13.  You Don’t Want to Know  by Lisa Jackson is a thriller about Ava, who has just been released from a mental institution after a breakdown caused by the loss of her young son two years previously. His body was never found.  Now Ava is trying to discover the truth, but that’s very difficult when there seems to be no one—not even her husband— she can trust.
12.  Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand begins with graduation at Nantucket High, where the close-knit community has gathered to see their children pass a milestone in their lives.  Hours later, a horrific crash leaves a beautiful and accomplished girl dead, her twin brother in a coma, and two others with emotional trauma.  What is even more tragic and incomprehensible is that it appears the crash was deliberate, leaving the survivors and loved ones to try to unravel the secrets, broken promises, and heartbreak left behind.
11.  Last to Die by Tess Gerritsen is the latest in the best-selling series. The murder of a boy’s foster family and a boarding school for orphans wouldn’t seem to be connected,   but Rizzoli and Isles soon discover there’s more going on than meets the eye.
10.  Bared to You by Sylvia Day is a book recommended for all the folks who have read the Shades of Grey trilogy and are ready for more.  Even the covers look alike, and we can all guess that’s no coincidence!
9.  Sweet Talk is the latest romantic thriller from Julie Garwood.  Olivia is determined to shut down her con-man father’s investment company.  Her position as a lawyer for the IRS she has some resources that others don’t, but her search for evidence puts her in danger.  Enter handsome FBI agent Grayson Kincaid and you have a book that Publishers Weekly describes as having “a great plot with strong characters and red-hot romance.”
8.  The Last Victim by Karen Robards is the story of Dr. Charlotte Stone, a criminal psychologist who is also a survivor of a murder attempt by the Boardwalk Killer.  Now two FBI agents have turned up at her door, asking for help because they think the Killer is back.  This is the first in a new series of romantic thrillers with a touch of the paranormal.
7.  The Bone Tree by Greg Iles is still scheduled for a December 18, 2012 release.
6.  Reacher is back! Lee Child’s new book is A Wanted Man and it picks up minutes after the events of Worth Dying For.  If you have something to hide, you’d be well advised not to pick up a hitchhiker named Reacher.
5.  Inn at Rose Harbor is the first in a new series by Debbie Macomber. Although the setting is still Cedar Cove, the stories in this series revolve around the guests at Jo Marie Rose’s inn.  The book is as heartwarming as her others.  Macomber says the inn is meant to be a place of healing and hope.
4.  Bones Are Forever by Kathy Reichs has Tempe Brennan investigating the deaths of three infants.  Joining her in the investigation are Detective Ryan and Canadian policeman Sgt. Ollie Hasty in a twisted plot that includes drug dealing and diamond mines.  You can read a transcript of Reichs’ recent NPR appearance   at http://www.npr.org/2012/08/31/160391684/meet-the-brains-behind-bones
3.  Just when it appears that E. L. James might not make the list this month, here is the second book in the trilogy!  Fifty Shades Darker continues the steamy exploits of student Anastasia Steel and the wealthy Christian Grey.
2.  Zoo by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge has an upswing in animal attacks against humans.  Biologist Jackson Oz and ecologist Chloe Tousignant realize that these attacks are not only increasing in ferocity, but they’re being coordinated. Unless someone takes action quickly, humans may become an extinct species.

And the number one reserve book is:

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.  This is Flynn’s third novel, following Dark Places and Sharp Objects.  All are standalone thrillers.  When Amy Dunne disappears, suspicion naturally falls on her husband Nick. He doesn’t help his case by being less than truthful with the police.  It appears to be an open and shut case, but then the twists start coming and don’t let up in this wickedly suspenseful novel.
