Christina: My ultimate favorite Christmas music is “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. I also enjoy any Christmas song sung by Perry Como, and Bing Crosby’s Christmas Classic album. My mother played these Christmas records every year.
As for traditions, Matt and I began dating in December, and also got engaged a few Decembers later. So, each year, we ‘recreate’ our first date to the best of our abilities. We each wear plaid dressy clothing, go to a Chinese restaurant, buy a pack of Lifesavers and drive around looking at Christmas lights. We also exchange small Christmas ornaments, as I gave him one on our first date.
I also participate in the community theater production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.
I always cook a country ham for the family Christmas dinner. We all enjoy this slightly unhealthy delicacy once a year.
Tonia: I grew up listening to Burl Ives, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra Christmas Carols, but Anne Murray’s beautiful Christmas melodies have a special place in my heart, too. Most of my holiday-themed recommendations come from childhood as I was fortunate to have a wonderful home and a very loving and caring family that made holiday traditions and family time important. “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” and “We Three Kings” have always been two of my favorite Christmas carols—more the traditional version/hymns we’d sing at church.
Brenda D: The old church Christmas hymns mostly, like “Away in a Manger,” “What Child is This,” “Silent Night,” “Joy to the World,” “The First Noel,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” and “O Little Town of Bethlehem. But, of course, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” is a favorite, too.
Jeanne: It depends on my mood, but I’ll always stop and listen to a version of “We Three Kings” or “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” I also have a soft spot for “Santa Baby” and “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”
